The two-day event brought together more than sixty experts in research management from eleven countries, aiming to strengthen collaboration, share experience, and support the professional development of research management in the region.<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe event was <\/span>co-organised<\/b> in partnership with <\/span>Czechia (CZELO)<\/b>, <\/span>Hungary (NRDIO)<\/b>, and <\/span>Poland (PolSCA) <\/b>while the <\/span>European Association of Research Managers and Administrators (EARMA)<\/b> acted as a strategic partner of the Congress.<\/span>\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n

Building Excellence in Research Management<\/b><\/h4>\r\nThe Congress was opened by <\/span>Vir\u00e1g Zs\u00e1r<\/b>, Research Director at the <\/span>H\u00e9tfa Research Institute<\/b>, who in her keynote address underlined the growing importance of research managers as key actors driving institutional performance, innovation, and international collaboration.\u00a0<\/span>Her message was followed by a <\/span>panel discussion<\/strong> on developing research potential in the Central and Eastern European region, moderated by <\/span>Henning Rickelt<\/b> from the <\/span>German Centre for Science and Research Management. <\/span>During the discussion, <\/span>Anna Seip<\/b> from the <\/span>European Commission presented the Commission\u2019s strategic perspective on capacity building and the professionalisation of research management.<\/span>\r\n\r\nFrom Slovakia, <\/span>Peter Cuninka<\/b> of the <\/span>Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava<\/b> shared national experiences in establishing research support structures at the university level and in advocating for recognition of the profession\u2019s importance. <\/span>Lenka Chvojkov\u00e1<\/b> represented the <\/span>Technology Centre Prague and the well-established <\/span>CZARMA network, while <\/span>Ewa Mendec<\/b> from the <\/span>Silesian University of Technology and the newly founded <\/span>PolARMA shared the Polish perspective. <\/span>The Hungarian experience, from the viewpoint of a funding organisation, was presented by <\/span>D\u00f3ra Pivarcsin\u00e9 Fekete<\/b> from the <\/span>National Research, Development and Innovation Office.<\/span>\r\n\r\nAt the <\/span>heart of the Congress were a series of <\/span>practical and interactive workshops<\/b> focused on talent development, successful project proposal design, effective financial management and planning, and the use of digital tools in research management. <\/span>The sessions, led by experts <\/span>Ji\u0159\u00ed S\u00fdkora, Judit Fekete, Toni Skeen, David Kurz, Simon Cullen,<\/b> and <\/span>Miguel Garc\u00eda Gonz\u00e1lez<\/b>, created valuable opportunities for exchanging experience and strengthening international cooperation in the research community.<\/span>\r\n

Expertise, Collaboration, and Modern Technologies in Research<\/b><\/h4>\r\nThe second day of the Congress built on the workshop series and opened with a session led by <\/span>Dagmar Vokounov\u00e1 Franzeov\u00e1<\/b> from the <\/span>University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, focusing on developing soft skills in research management. <\/span>Joanna Bosiacka-Kniat<\/b> from the <\/span>Pozna\u0144 Science and Technology Park presented best practices in financial planning and budgeting, while <\/span>David Kurz<\/b> from the <\/span>European Research Council discussed impact assessment methods and communication with funding agencies.<\/span>\r\n\r\nEdwin Kanters<\/b>, Director for Research and Innovation at <\/span>Utrecht University, used the metaphor of <\/span>research managers as mythical unicorns<\/span><\/i> to highlight their indispensable role as professionals who bridge strategy and practice, enabling the creation of innovative and sustainable projects.<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe theme continued in a <\/span>roundtable discussion on cross-border collaboration, moderated by <\/span>Teodora Konach<\/b> from <\/span>EARMA. Panelists included <\/span>Linda Kapustov\u00e1 Helbichov\u00e1<\/b> from the <\/span>International Visegrad Fund, who presented new opportunities for funding collaboration; <\/span>Jacek Ku\u017anicki<\/b>, who built the successful <\/span>International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw on the strength of outstanding research managers; and <\/span>Edwin Kanters<\/b>, who contributed insights from Utrecht University\u2019s experience with new approaches to measuring research excellence and impact.<\/span>\r\n\r\nAn <\/span>afternoon panel discussion on <\/span>the use of artificial intelligence in research<\/b>, moderated by <\/span>Lars de Nul<\/b> from the <\/span>European Commission\u2019s Directorate for Artificial Intelligence in Science and Technology, offered participants concrete examples of AI tools in academic settings. <\/span>Contributions came from <\/span>Kristjan Zemljic<\/b> of <\/span>Global Disruption, <\/span>Tomasz Parko\u0142a<\/b> of the <\/span>Pozna\u0144 Supercomputing and Networking Center, and <\/span>Gergely Szertics<\/b> from the <\/span>Hungarian Research Network (HUN-REN).<\/span>\r\n\r\n\"\"\r\n\r\nThe Congress concluded with a keynote by <\/span>Nik Claesen<\/b>, Executive Director of <\/span>EARMA, who presented the vision for further development of the research management profession. <\/span>He emphasised the need for building stable support structures, continuous professional education, and stronger integration of the profession within the <\/span>European Research Area.<\/span>\r\n

Strong Slovak Representation<\/b><\/h4>\r\nThirteen participants from Slovakia represented academic, research, and industrial institutions, including:<\/span>\r\n
