On 11 September 2025, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) officially launched its new Community Hub Slovakia in Košice. The opening event took place at Kulturpark, gathering national representatives of several EIT Knowledge and Innovation Communities, local stakeholders, and innovation leaders.
The Hub will serve as a dynamic meeting point for innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers, and policymakers, helping to connect local talents with Europe’s foremost innovation network.
The launch featured active participation from Peter Mésároš, Rector of the Technical University of Košice (TUKE), who welcomed participants and joined the panel “Building Innovation Capacity: From Vision to Implementation.” His contribution underlined the strong commitment of Slovak academia to building a sustainable innovation ecosystem in the region.
The Košice Hub is the latest extension of EIT’s efforts in Slovakia; it follows the appointment of Slovak economist Ján Oravec to the EIT Governing Board, highlighting the country’s growing influence in shaping strategic decisions at Europe’s innovation frontier.
The new Hub will provide information on EIT programmes and funding, facilitate workshops, networking sessions, and training, and support startups and scale-ups. By fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and the public sector, the Hub aims to empower local talents, encourage entrepreneurship, and help deliver solutions to societal challenges.
With this new presence in Košice, Slovakia further strengthens its role within the EIT’s pan-European network, ensuring that innovators from all regions can benefit from opportunities, partnerships, and resources that drive Europe’s competitiveness.
