Professional stays

SLORD offers employees of Slovak universities and public research institutions the opportunity to undertake a temporary stay in Brussels. The fellowship is intended for project officers, postdoctoral fellows/postdoctoral researchers, employees of public institutions active in the field of research and innovation or other employees active in engaging their organisation in international scientific cooperation.

The stay can be:

1) short-term: from 2 to 4 weeks

2) Long-term: from 1 to 4 months

The exact duration of the stay will be determined by mutual agreement and taking into account the capacity and availability of the SLORD office.

Possible dates of stays:

  • February – June
  • September – November

Basic information

Seconded staff members are provided with working facilities free of charge on the premises of the SLORD office in Brussels. Travel and accommodation costs related to the staff member’s stay in Brussels shall normally be borne by the seconding institution. The seconded staff member remains fully employed by the seconding institution during his/her stay and continues to work for it remotely. At the same time, he uses his presence in Brussels to familiarise himself with the activities of the SLORD office, to get to know the Brussels environment and to enrich his knowledge, experience and contacts.

What do we offer?

  • Better understanding of how the EU and its institutions work;
  • Familiarise yourself with the main EU policies on science, research and innovation;
  • A better understanding of how directly managed EU programmes work, in particular Horizon Europe;
  • Creating opportunities for new contacts and collaborations;
  • Networking and visiting the project offices of Belgian universities;
  • Liaison with key science and research actors in Brussels (liaison offices of other countries, Permanent Representation of the Slovak Republic to the EU, representations of universities or their associations);
  • Participation in many thematic and networking events;
  • Facilities for presentations and meetings.

What do we expect from you?

  • Strong interest of the sending organisation in European cooperation in science and research and in deepening its internationalisation;
  • The staff member’s experience in preparing or implementing research projects;
  • Readiness to work in an international environment.

What conditions need to be met?

  • Be an employee of a public university or research institution based in Slovakia;
  • Active knowledge of the English language;

The selection process is continuous.

The SLORD Office reserves the right to select candidates on the basis of the submitted applications. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis and in chronological order according to the date of receipt.

Is financial support available?

Universities can apply for an Erasmus+ grant to fund the placement of their staff through the Educational Mobility of Staff (KA1) action type. For more information, visit the Erasmus+ National Agency website or contact your institution’s Erasmus+ department.

If staff learning mobility is an eligible expenditure, funding the placement through ongoing national or international projects is also an option.
