As one of only 13 institutions selected for the pilot project, CVTI SR will serve as Slovakia’s national EOSC node, providing researchers with unprecedented access to international scientific data, analytical tools, and collaboration platforms.
This achievement marks a historic milestone for Slovak science and research, reinforcing the country’s role in the European scientific ecosystem.
A New Era for Slovak Science and Research
By becoming a national node within the EOSC Federation, Slovakia is now part of an initiative designed to streamline access to scientific resources across Europe. This development is expected to have a transformative impact on the Slovak research community, offering:
- Easier access to international scientific data and tools, enabling researchers to work with cutting-edge resources.
- Increased visibility for Slovak scientific outputs, helping to position Slovakia as a key player in European research.
- Enhanced collaboration with world-renowned institutions such as CERN, CNRS (Data Terra), CSC IT Center for Science, and ELIXIR Hub.
“This step will allow us to better promote Slovak scientific outputs at the European level and contribute to building a robust research and innovation infrastructure,” said Anna Krivjanská, Slovakia’s national delegate to the EOSC Steering Board.

The EOSC Federation: Transforming Open Science

The European Open Science Cloud Federation is an initiative that aims to simplify how scientists store, share, and analyze research data. Built on FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable), EOSC enables a more collaborative, transparent, and efficient research environment across Europe.
A major milestone in this initiative was the launch of the EOSC European Node in October 2024, which serves as the central hub for this interconnected research ecosystem. The next phase involves developing national, organizational, and thematic nodes—such as the one now established in Slovakia—to integrate European scientific infrastructure more effectively.
Slovakia’s Selection Among Europe’s Research Leaders

CVTI SR’s selection for this pilot project was the result of a highly competitive process. Out of 121 applicants, only 28 organizations were shortlisted, and ultimately, just 13 were chosen to participate. Slovakia’s successful inclusion in this prestigious group underscores its commitment to advancing open science and its readiness to engage with leading European research institutions.
“Thanks to CVTI SR, Slovakia is now at the forefront of open science in Europe. This achievement ensures better access to research resources and strengthens cooperation at the European level,” said Róbert Gálik, Director General of CVTI SR.
Implications for Slovak Research and Innovation
With its integration into the EOSC Federation, Slovakia is well-positioned to expand its scientific capabilities and foster stronger international collaboration. Researchers will benefit from:
- Improved access to digital research infrastructures, allowing them to conduct studies more efficiently.
- Opportunities to contribute to major European research initiatives, increasing the global reach of Slovak science.
- Participation in shaping the future of open science, as EOSC continues to evolve.
This milestone marks not just a recognition of Slovakia’s scientific excellence, but also a commitment to fostering a more connected and data-driven research environment. As the EOSC Federation grows, Slovakia’s involvement will play a crucial role in ensuring that its researchers remain at the forefront of innovation, collaboration, and discovery.
