
On 25 August 2025, the European Commission announced that 30 research consortia have signed grant agreements under the 2024 Horizon Europe Missions calls, receiving more than €200 million in funding. These projects bring together nearly 500 beneficiaries from 34 countries including research organisations, universities, local authorities, civil society and SMEs. Projects support two EU Missions: Adaptation to Climate Change and Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030.
Funding distribution by call is as follows:
- HORIZON-MISS-2024-CLIMA-01: 17 projects signed; budget nearly €113 million,
- HORIZON-MISS-2024-OCEAN-01: 7 projects signed; budget nearly €48 million,
- HORIZON-MISS-2024-OCEAN-02: 5 projects signed; budget nearly €54 million,
- HORIZON-MISS-2024-OCEAN-IBA: 1 direct grant of €14 million awarded to develop public infrastructure for the European Digital Twin Ocean, requiring specialised technical expertise.

The GRACE project develops nature-based solutions across Europe, with Slovakia involved through the Žilina Self-Governing Region. CLIMINVEST creates a marketplace for climate adaptation projects, supported nationally by the Bratislava University of Economics and Business, while JUSTSAFE designs inclusive resilience strategies with Slovak input again from the Žilina Self-Governing Region. SystR pilots systemic risk approaches in Banská Bystrica and Rome, where the Municipality of Ábelová contributes. DanubeLifelines focuses on wetland and floodplain restoration and SWIM improves ecosystems through pilot actions led in Slovakia by the Technical University of Košice. Finally, SEAMPHONI advances offshore marine monitoring with participation from IMC – Industrial Management Consulting Slovakia, s.r.o.
