The European Research Council and the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, in cooperation with national academies from the Netherlands, Finland, Cyprus, and the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS), are organising an event entitled “Towards the European Fifth Freedom and Global Competition: Voices from Science” on 29 June 2026. The event will bring together policymakers, scientists, and other stakeholders to discuss the future direction of the European research and innovation landscape.

The discussion will focus on the future of European research and innovation in the context of preparations for the 10th EU Framework Programme (FP10), European competitiveness, and global scientific cooperation.
