Slovak Scientific Personalities of the Year 2023



 

Five exceptional personalities received awards for their science and research achievements in Slovakia for 2023 at the 27th annual Scientist of the Year event.

 

The evaluation committee, which consisted of representatives of the award’s promoters, selected five scientific personalities from 48 nominations:

 

  • Scientist of the Year

prof. Ing. Martin Orendáč, DrSc. from the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice for significant scientific contribution in the field of molecular and low-dimensional magnetism, extensive publication activity in prestigious peer-reviewed journals and for extraordinary grant success

 

  • Young Scientist/Young Researcher

RNDr. Ivana Šišoláková, PhD. from the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice for her contribution to the development of electrochemical sensors and for building important international collaborations with the private sector

 

  • Innovator of the Year

doc. Ing. Alexander Schrek, PhD. from the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava for a significant innovative contribution in the field of formability of combined laser-welded semi-finished products

 

  • Technologist of the Year

doc. Ing. Miloš Mičian, PhD. from the University of Žilina in Žilina for research and development of technological procedures for welding of high-strength steels for practice

 

  • Personality of International Cooperation

prof. Ing. Igor Farkaš, Ph.D. from Comenius University in Bratislava for significant scientific results in the field of artificial intelligence using artificial neural network models, obtained in collaboration with foreign partners, and for the development of an international interdisciplinary master’s programme in cognitive science
