Selected Regional Innovation Valleys

The Košice Region and the Košice Region Innovation Centre have achieved a significant success by being selected as one of the Regional Innovation Valleys under the new European Innovation Agenda. This prestigious selection is a major step forward for the development of the region, strengthening its innovation potential and increasing its competitiveness at European level.

“This award is recognition of our region’s long-term efforts in innovation and technological development,” said Ing. Rastislav Trnka, President of the Košice Region. “We are proud to be part of this important initiative and look forward to working with our European partners,” said Ing. Peter Breyl, Director General of the Košice Region Innovation Centre.

Košice Region will be part of a project consortium focused on the area of ​​the circular economy, the total budget of which is 22.8 million EUR. The project consortium is led by the city of Madrid and includes important partners such as EIT Digital and Innovation Norway. The Innovation Center will play a key role in the implementation of new projects and programs that will support innovation in technology, education and business. The goal is to create an environment that will attract top experts and companies from various fields and support the creation of new jobs and economic growth.

As part of the new European Innovation Agenda, the European Commission has set itself the goal of connecting regional innovation centres and creating a strong network that will support the development of innovation across Europe. The selection of the Košice Region as one of the Regional Innovation Valleys is an important step towards fulfilling this goal and strengthening Slovakia’s position in the European innovation space.

The Regional Innovation Valleys programme is an initiative of the European Commission that aims to foster innovation in regions and connect them to European and global innovation ecosystems. The selection of the Košice region means access to extensive European resources, partnerships and programmes that will help accelerate the region’s technological and economic development.
