Slovak universities are members of 3 newly funded Universities alliances

On 28 June, the European Commission announced the results of the 2024 Erasmus+ call for the European Universities Initiative, which provides support to alliances of higher education institutions. With this result, 14 new European Universities alliances are joining the 50 previously selected alliances and will receive up to €14.4 million each over a period of four years. Slovak universities are now members of 8 alliances in total:

NEW  KreativEU – Knowledge and Creativity European University with Trnava University in Trnava

NEW  PIONEERThe European University for Future Cities with University of Žilina

The now 64 European Universities alliances encompass more than 560 higher education instutitons of all types, across all regions of Europe. The addition of the new alliances marks an important milestone, achieving the European strategy for universties‘ goal to have at least 60 European Universities alliances with more than 500 universities involved by mid-2024.

The European Universities alliances bring together a new generation of Europeans and allow them to study and work in different European countries, in different languages, and across sectors and academic disciplines. University alliances will:

  • put in place a long-term joint strategy for education at the service of society, with links to research and innovation where possible
  • build European inter-university campuses for students and staff members to study and work in different European countries, different languages, and across sectors and academic disciplines
  • set up European knowledge-creating teams with their innovation ecosystem to help tackle current and future societal challenges

The 2024 Eramus+ call for proposals also supports the set-up of a Community of Practice for European Universities, reinforcing peer learning between the alliances and boosting dissemination of reusable results and models within the wider higher education sector.
