The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) announced 180 organisations from higher education institutions (HEI), business and civil society from 38 countries, that will benefit from up to EUR 12 million of funding to support their innovation capacity, with a particular focus on deep tech.
Deep Tech innovations are indispensable in creating solutions to the most pressing global challenges facing Europe. The EIT HEI Initiative is committed to working together with universities and partners to boost knowledge in Deep Tech fields such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cleantech.
A total of 48 consortia from across Europe applied for this year’s call, which closed in February 2023 and as a result, 16 projects will benefit from maximum funding of EUR 750 000 each. With an even distribution of academic and non-academic organisations, the EIT HEI Initiative is determined to achieve its goal of creating synergies between industry and higher education institutions to boost innovation and entrepreneurship in Europe.
The selected EIT HEI Initiative projects announced today, directly support the Deep Tech Talent Initiative, EIT’s new flagship programme that will train 1 million deep tech talents by 2025.
We would like to introduce you to the three successful participants from Slovakia.
BOOSTalent
A consortium of eight partners with the BOOSTalent project with a vision for 2023:
- aims to foster innovation in AI and machine learning (ML), particularly in the fields of aerospace, electronics, advanced materials, sustainability, and biodiversity,
- seeks to establish a long-term partnership between industry, academia, and government to develop cutting-edge education programmes, and address the climate crisis and wider sustainability issues,
- positions HEIs as engines of impact in the field of AI and ML.
One of the consortium members is a Slovak company G-Force s.r.o. – climate-tech pre/seed investment programme, that is building the world’s leading climate-tech hub, accelerating the adoption of the most promising technologies, on the path to a Net Zero Planet.
ABCD – The Alliance of Boundary Crossing for Deep Tech
ABCD consortium consists of several universities and incubators that aim to:
- be a leading platform for innovation and deep tech entrepreneurship in the Western Balkans,
- strengthen project management, promote capacity building, provide incubation services, establish strong connections with the local innovation ecosystem, and disseminate results effectively,
- foster an entrepreneurial mindset and support deep tech start-ups to thrive globally through effective collaboration with stakeholders.
DisruptiveHub (DH) is a Slovak consulting group for the improvement of the quality of life in urban areas and is part of the consortium.
DETECT! – Deep Tech Creativity
The consortiumDETECT! connects HEIs’ strength in deep tech fields with HEIs’ strength in entrepreneurship-related schemes with the following vision until 2030:
- to create an integrated innovation ecosystem,
- to systematise all innovation-supporting services, training, and mentoring programmes,
- to transform the participating higher education institutions into a pool of deep-tech talent with entrepreneurial skills,
- to develop an entrepreneurial culture, enabling HEIs to become key innovation actors.
The Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra is part of this successful consortium.
